SAHM to WAHM

Wow! It's been nearly a year since I started this blog with the highest of intentions of writing often. With the holidays and then my decision to start my own sewing business, I fell WAY behind.

So I always envied moms that were able to work from home to help support their families. I mean c'mon...who doesn't want to report to work in their pajamas, with hair all messy and children tugging at your leg to refill their sippy cups? I've always considered myself pretty artsy but forgot how much I enjoyed it once I left high school....or rather, once I started dating my husband 7 1/2 years ago.

Well this year was our daughter's 1st birthday and rather than doing the normal average party, I decided I was going to do it all myself (save for some family helping with food) and make everything. We quickly decided on a rainbow theme and I began trolling on Etsy. Afterall, the only sewing I had done was making scrunchies in junior high and stuffed animals in high school. I wasn't about to try sewing an outfit for Alli with months til her birthday.  Then I found it...the perfect dress! Tiers of fabric in rainbow colors from red to purple and absolutely beautiful....for a $70+ price tag. I almost choked...actually I'm sure I did.  Not to be deterred I began researching, watching youtube videos, and practicing on my own.

I returned my Nook that my husband bought be for Christmas and bought a sewing machine instead. Afterall, if the only thing I did was make this dress and hem my curtains, I would be happy. Little did I know that would be nearly eleven months ago, and almost 700 Facebook fans later to my Sew Crafty Girl facebook page. I fell in love with the artsy side of creating again, and my passion for making items that I loved soared.  Then the ultimate high of seeing my fans wearing my items sealed the deal and I went from a SAHM to a WAHM.

That being said, my sewing room is calling my name. As well as the need to finish more orders this week.

In other news, have you checked out Mommy & Me  ? It's a blog written by another mom who blogs, does product reviews, and hosts giveaways.  Speaking of giveaways, right now there is a one for 4 tickets to see Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey's Circus at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. It ends tomorrow night, so make sure to head over there and get your entries in:) Good luck!!
